SRM University was established in the year 1985 as SRM Engineering College. It got the status of Deemed University in the year 2003 and renamed as SRM Institute of Science and Technology. It turns to full-fledged University in 2006 and renamed again as the present SRM University, a private, co-educational and self-financing institution, recognized by the UGC. The University imparts the technical education in the areas of management, law, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, health sciences and humanities.


SRM University has split into various campuses across the country in many states. There are three campuses in Chennai only. The Kattankulathur Campus is the Main campus of SRM University. The campus is sited at the Southern Grand Trunk Road (Trichy – Chennai Highway) at SRM Nagar in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The main Campus is consists of three colleges as school of engineering, medical and humanities. The main campus is spread over in 250 acres.


SRM University main campus is offering 39 UG courses, 2 integrated courses, 60 PG courses in the field of engineering, medical science, law, allied science & humanities and various UG and PG diploma and certificate courses. In addition to this, the College of Pharmacy of SRM University offers UG, PG and doctoral courses in pharmacy field. The main campus offers the doctoral programme in all disciplines of academic education. It offers the following courses:

The campus has a three star hotel with swimming pool and banquet hall, medical college, hospital, research centre, ATM, post office, various canteen, departmental store, auditorium, central library, prayer hall for all religion and 40 buses to facilitate the transport.


The campus focuses on the students’ activities and encourage them to explore themselves. The campus established various clubs and associations for students and faculty welfare. These  associations run technical activities, cultural & social activities and various sports and curricular activities.


SRM University main campus has departmental wise placement office. The placement cell offers the job recruitment for the student by inviting the various reputed national and multinational companies. The cell also provides the arrangement of internship and job oriented trainings
